What’s Brewing in the AI World This Week?
By Niharika Rajesh
🔖 Reddit’s Not Playing Nice with Claude Anymore
Reddit has taken Anthropic (maker of Claude) to court, claiming the startup scraped Reddit over 100,000 times to train its models, without permission. The timing is interesting, considering Reddit recently inked big licensing deals with Google and OpenAI. Now it seems they’re drawing a line in the sand on who gets to profit from their data. Anthropic denies wrongdoing.
🗃️ The AI Assistant That Actually Knows Where Your Files Are
OpenAI rolled out new updates to ChatGPT, and they’re all about making your workday smoother. You can now link your Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive to let ChatGPT fetch, read, and analyse your files (finally!). There’s also a new voice recording feature, which is simply perfect for capturing meeting notes or brainstorming sessions. It’s rolling out to Team users first, but Enterprise and Plus users are next.
👓 Step Into the Future with Meta’s Aria Gen 2
Meta’s Aria Gen 2 glasses are setting a new standard for wearable AI tech. With upgraded cameras offering a wider field of view and better dynamic range, plus new sensors like heart rate monitors and contact microphones, these lightweight glasses deliver powerful on-device AI that tracks your gaze, hands, and environment in real time.

AI Companies and Record Labels Come to An Agreement?!
By Mishel Stefanova
There’s quite a tonal shift from last week’s discussion on the relationship between the use of AI and creative companies. Large music records like Sony, Universal and Warner are in talks with AI startups, Udio and Suno about a potential licensing agreement.
This approach conflicts with Nick Clegg, Meta’s former Head of Global Affairs, who has argued that asking artists for permission to use their work would 'kill' the AI industry.
Both Udio and Suno, AI startups that generate music from text prompts, faced copyright lawsuits from musical record behemoths in 2023. Suno secured $125 million in funding from Lightspeed Venture Partners last year, while Udio raised $10 million with backing from Andreessen Horowitz. Their AI models are trained on datasets involving millions of pieces of music, raising copyright concerns.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sought up to $150,000 per infringed work, possibly amounting to billions of dollars, proving unsustainable for the start-ups. In a surprising twist, their previous rivals are now in talks with Udio and Suno to license their music catalogs.
The deals aim to potentially settle existing lawsuits between the parties by:
Creating fair payment models for recording artists
Including license fees and giving music companies partial ownership of Udio and Suno
Negotiations are ongoing, with AI companies racing to see who strikes the first deal. However, these discussions seem to be more complicated - labels demand tighter control and better compensation, while AI startups push for flexibility and affordable licenses to keep innovating.
What do YOU think?
Was Nick Clegg wrong? Are there other ethical alternatives to fair AI use in creative circles?
The music industry has long struggled with digital disruption since the dawn of the internet. Could these talks finally reduce piracy? Will they make AI-generated music mainstream?
Perhaps this is the start of a balance between copyright protection and innovation in AI music creation.
Only time will tell.

AI Terminology of the Week
Temperature
By Niharika Rajesh
How boring or bold should your AI be today?
Temperature controls how random (or safe) a model’s responses are.
0 = Straight-laced, predictable, safe
1 = Creative, chaotic, and occasionally genius
🎛️ Try tweaking it next time to match the AI’s vibe to yours.
(You can set the temperature directly in your prompt. Just add a line like: “You are ChatGPT with a temperature of 0.2. Keep your responses factual and grounded.”)
